Networking Guidelines

Important Guidelines for using FrameReady on a Network

  • Install all of the FrameReady files on the hard disk of your fastest computer. This will be the Server computer.

  • The Server computer must be up and running on your network before Guest devices can open FrameReady.

  • All FrameReady files remain located on the Server computer only; all other Guest devices access the Server files via your local area network.

  • Each Guest device must have FileMaker Pro (or, on the iPad, FileMaker Go) installed on it.

  • You must have a valid Network Key to open FrameReady on two or more devices. Your unique Network Key will only allow you to open FrameReady on the number of networked devices you have purchased a Network License for.

Tip: Additional network licenses can be purchased by calling 1-888-281-3303.

  • Make sure that the Server's FrameReady files are set for Multi-User. See: Set up FrameReady for Multi User

  • Only one end-user can edit an individual record at any given time. Others can read that record, but no one can modify it until the current end-user finishes working and moves to another record (an error message may appear to remind you of this).

  • Using FileMaker Server, you can open FrameReady files cross-platform, on Mac and Windows systems. However, you may see differences in font mapping and the alignment of layout objects.

  • Technical support for using FrameReady on a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is not available. However, some notes that may be useful:

    • FileMaker Server communicates through port 5003, so this needs to be open on the VPN for FileMaker Server to be accessible. More information on the ports FileMaker uses.

    • If it is not possible to set the VPN, then the would be to communicate directly with FileMaker Server (without the VPN). In that case your IT will need to open port 5003 on your router/network and forward it to the FileMaker server.
More information about port 5003 forwarding.
